A Comparison of the Segmentation, Targeting, and Positioning Strategies of Nivea Beiersdorf in the UK and Thailand Essay Example
A Comparison of the Segmentation, Targeting, and Positioning Strategies of Nivea Beiersdorf in the UK and Thailand Essay Example A Comparison of the Segmentation, Targeting, and Positioning Strategies of Nivea Beiersdorf in the UK and Thailand Paper A Comparison of the Segmentation, Targeting, and Positioning Strategies of Nivea Beiersdorf in the UK and Thailand Paper Aside from the working strategies being finished by the Nivea Beiersdorf joint, the requirement for a productive investigation of the promoting plans utilized the worldwide firm is significant for the achievement of its tasks in the United Kingdom and Thailand. The two nations display an alternate arrangement of societies, just as a changing cluster of socioeconomics which enormously influences the STP procedures being utilized by any organization who wishes to effectively enter the two markets (Kotler, 2003). Nivea Beiersdorf has its decent footing in Europe and entering the British Market would not be that difficult given that the beauty care products and way of life organization has been there for around sixty years. In any case, the organization nearness in Thailand, given its very surprising socioeconomics than that of the UK, just as its profoundly serious beautifying agents market would act like a test in the situating procedure of Nivea Beiersdorf (2007). The STP procedures to be used for the two nations ought to be examined with most extreme contemplations. These contemplations will thus fall under three fundamental parts: the concentrated, undifferentiated, and the separated techniques (Kotler, 2003). Concentrated Strategies Under this kind of advertising system, the organization, Nivea Beiersdorf needs to focus its assets inside explicit market sections of the UK and Thailand (2006c). In light of this, the firm needs to figure out which portion of the two distinct markets have the better need of market entrance procedures. In spite of the fact that Thailand has a grater need of advertising entrance methodologies since Niveaââ¬â¢s nearness there is later and the market development is increasingly serious when contrasted with that of the British market, the concentrated system can be all the more effectively is utilized in the British market since the organization has been there for very long. Under this kind of advertising methodology, rivalry is as of now perceived and little to medium-sized firms which offer a similar showcasing blend like Marks and Spencer have the ability to rival the organization given that Nivea Beiersdorf was at that point ready to situate itself over the beauty care products showcase as a debut beautifying agents organization. Then again, the concentrated focusing on technique being utilized by Nivea Beiersdorf in the UK is more on the support and improvement of the piece of the pie in the nation just as adapting up to the market development factors that are included (Kotler, 2003). Undifferentiated Strategies Alongside the current concentrated procedures utilized by Nivea Beiesdorf in the UK and Thailand, under the undifferentiated system, the organization situating isn't tremendously removed earnestly in the UK from the effectively settled notoriety and is increasingly worried on the investment funds that the organization could accomplish. Nonetheless, this objective showcasing system can be best utilized in the Thai market out of the elevated level of patriotism of local people towards their nearby items. Utilizing this particular procedure, Nivea needs to situate itself as a nearby brand yet of outside beginning. That is, Nivea should set up itself as an item that isn't entirely different from the nearby ones. This particular methodology is at present being utilized by the organization to date with a nearby manufacturing plant just as neighborhood representatives being utilized. Along these lines, energy about the results of the organization is streamlined and reserve funds on promotin g can be utilized for different purposes. In spite of the fact that, this sort of system is increasingly defenseless to rivalry, the perfect measure of organization cautiousness of the Thai socioeconomics must be deliberately observed (Kotler, 2003). Separated Strategies Under this sort, the organization is creating a few kinds of items that would explicitly take into account the requirements of the distinctive market sections present in the two nations. A particular case of this is the scope of items offered by Nivea beside the typical white cream up to sun tan moisturizers, body splashes, and so on. The focusing on systems being utilized here is an item dependent on the exhaustive examination of the segment factors that are available in the UK and Thailand. For instance, the British market is made out of a high grown-up advertise fragment with a high extra cash (2006b). The scope of items to be produced for them suits the attributes of this specific area. On the Thai market then again, there are a great deal of the housewife fragment with an average estimated salary who is fixated on having white skin, subsequently, an alternate arrangement of item contributions should be made for them (2006a). Organization situating subsequently can be directed by the item contributions that will be used by the organization.

A Proposal for a Web
A Proposal for a Web Acquaintance The suggestion with use online credit endorsement frameworks to improve the credit endorsement process is an engaging possibility for banks and other loaning foundations. This is on the grounds that the credit endorsement process is weighed down with dangers that all loaning establishments spend numerous assets managing.Advertising We will compose a custom coursework test on A Proposal for a Web-Enabled Hybrid Intelligent System Architecture in Support of Solving Credit Approval Problems in Banks explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More The dangers emerge from low quality data achieved by deceitful applications, interagency nature of its assortment and obsolete data. By utilizing an online framework, the viability of the procedure will improve, decreasing the procedure overheads and expanding the edge for the banks. It requires the utilization of a framework engineering intended to create the most ideal outcomes from the examination of credit applications. There are various framework engineering alternatives to browse during the time spent structuring such a framework. Their normal sythesis incorporates, a database, model base and a UI, which cooperate to deliver the investigation report that leaders depend on . They structure the basic parts of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) frameworks utilized for choice help. Burnside and Kahn (2004) distinguished the most widely recognized AI devices as, ââ¬Å"Bayesian Network, Artificial Neural Networks, Case-Based Reasoning and Rule Based Systemsâ⬠. On account of a Web-Based choice emotionally supportive network for credit endorsement, the framework must take care of two issues. The primary issue is the thoroughness and precision of data. This issue emerges from databases being used in light of the fact that every database has its impediments. Some give more healthy data on customers than others. The subsequent issue is in the procedural issues that identify with the treatment of the dat a. The favored arrangement envelops, on one hand, a huge information assortment limit that traverses the whole web, and then again, a prevalent preparing limit of information for the benefiting of basic data credit officials require to settle on loaning choices. The framework proposed to address this difficulty will use Bayesian framework running on an electronic stage for forefront screening. It wil make conceivable the ID of customers with the most ideal accreditations for credit.Advertising Looking for coursework on business financial aspects? The third device for it to utilize is the Artificial Neural Networks to give enormous misrepresentation identification capacities. Proposition of System Architecture Performance Specifications The nece ssary framework must meet the accompanying details. It requires the ability to deal with an enormous volume of information. Information taking care of incorporates information obtaining and separating. The security needs of the framework will likewise require consideration. The framework ought to recognize and signal deficient or conflicting individual applications to identify misrepresentation and conflicting applications. The third component that the framework must have the ability to deal with is the capacity to recognize enormous extortion. This stems from the chance of the age of various characters to cheat money related foundations. Simulated intelligence devices The proposed framework utilizes AI apparatuses at three levels. Bayesian Networks structure the primary level. They comprise of a structure, a lot of probabilities, and a deduction calculation, which frames the premise of tasks. Master input goes into the improvement of the derivation calculation. This makes it valuab le for cutting edge screening. A functional use of this AI instrument is the partition of customers who have the attributes that coordinate those of customers with great connections, from those whose underlying conditions coordinate customers with troublesome connections. This will help to get rid of customers who don't get the potential for a decent connection with the bank. The subsequent level comprises of Artificial Neural Networks and Case-Based Reasoning frameworks. At this level the component that it will have incorporate the ability to recognize misrepresentation by distinguishing comparable examples in new credit applications, which might be fake. Fake Neural Networks give the premise to inferring connections between different informational collections. Then again, Case-Based Reasoning gives the ability to contrast new applications and the ones put away in the database. It gives the credit official the correlation of the two informational indexes guaranteeing that there is no rehashing of mix-ups made in the past.Advertising We will compose a custom coursework test on A Proposal for a Web-Enabled Hybrid Intelligent System Architecture in Support of Solving Credit Approval Problems in Banks explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More The third level will contain Ruleââ¬Based Reasoning, which will permit forward tying, and back binding to break down applications. This instrument makes it feasible for credit officials to decide if an application will cut off up in an effective association poor whether it will wind up in misrepresentation. Likewise, it can give data that will make it feasible for the banks to structure its showcasing exertion by beginning with the ideal last conditions, and utilizing the apparatus to create the underlying ones. Physical Architecture The physical engineering of the framework will include the standard processing gear. There are various topology decisions for the framework. They incorporate the star topology tha t joins PCââ¬â¢s in a reference mark design, transport topology that have all the PCââ¬â¢s associated with a principle arrange line, ring topology whose primary element is the round interconnection of all PCââ¬â¢s utilizing, ââ¬Å"paired physical interfacesâ⬠with other system hardware. Point to point association applies when there are just two gadgets in the system, while point to multipoint applies when all the gadgets interface with a particular gadget. Schematic graphs of star, ring and transport topologiesAdvertising Searching for coursework on business financial matters? How about we check whether we can support you! All the PCs utilized for examination will associate with the transport while the principle stockpiling server will be toward one side of the transport with a point to multipoint association. The other association and the finish of the transport will be the web server. Notwithstanding the PCââ¬â¢s, the framework will require various parts that will give the premise to use of web search abilities. This incorporates servers, switches, switches, centers, and system links. Convention Architecture At the convention engineering level, there is a decision of two convention models. They are the TCI/IP model and Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Network Model. There is far reaching utilization of the TCP/IP model, consequently it presents the least establishment challenges, and has limit with regards to development and cross s tage correspondence. All the layers that the OSI model has are remembered for the TCP/IP model. This implies there is least misfortune when utilizing TCP/IP. Examination of TCP/IP and OSI Model Layers Therefore, the proposed framework highlights four man-made reasoning devices at the product level, the TCP/IP convention, and a cross breed topology that incorporates transport, and point to multipoint topologies. The three components deal with the product necessities of the framework, the physical interconnection and the systems administration stage required for making the whole framework operable. Choice and Justification of Software Packages The Business Criteria Business activities structure their frameworks to accomplish any number of business goals that guarantee that the business restores a benefit. The two structures these measures take are expanding income and reducing expenses. The proposed framework will prompt increment in income by taking out business vulnerabilities. It w ill do this by furnishing the manage an account with the perfect beginning conditions in the loaning procedure, checking it against the application acquired and dependent on the framework, making suitable decisions. With this framework, the bank can rapidly decide if a specific credit relationship merits seeking after in any case. Also, the banks will have the option to work in reverse to distinguish who its objective clients are, in this way giving a more prominent level of center for its showcasing endeavors. On cost reserve funds, the framework will try to dispose of extortion, which is a genuine misfortune hazard to the bank. This will secure the banks income and will guarantee the bank doesn't cause the misfortunes through misrepresentation. This will improve the edge. The board Criteria The framework will be work serious at the beginning. It will require different specialists and investigation to build up the AI segments, while organizing architects will be the ones to introdu ce all the systems administration gear. What's more, programming software engineers will build up the framework and introduce the necessary UIs which the credit officials will use to get to the framework assets. The avocation of this exertion from an administration perspective is that it will decrease the exertion spent in examining applications and related costs, for example, prosecution costs from fake applications. Other administration gives that the framework will fathom incorporate better showcasing methodology as a result of better distinguishing proof of the objective market. Specialized Criteria, The decision of the framework incorporates the best advances accessible as far as AI, the best physical topology that accommodates upgraded usefulness, and the utilization of TCP/IP, which is the most

Debt-Free
Debt-Free I am standing in line at my favorite cafe, surrounded by smells and sounds. An uptempo milieu of acoustic guitar and tambourine is occupying the atmosphere around me, an Andy Davis tune, and Im singing alongâ"Itâs a goooo-oood lifeâ"like a tone-deaf idiot, missing every-other note, mumbling the words I dont know while looking out the large window to my left, staring into the blankness of the morning. Its the first week of spring, but Missoula has yet to receive the memo. Everything outside is blanketed white, so clean and absolute. I smell coffee. The smell alone is a near-religious experience. The cafes manager, Jerod, is perched behind a large, shiny espresso machine, manning the military-grade controls, pulling and twisting levers and knobs at precise intervals as the mammoth appliance emits the grinding and whisping sounds associated with good coffee. I imagine Jerod has more than one engineering degree. The whole scene is impressive in the way a kid breakdancing on the street is impressive; its completely foreign to me, but Im mesmerized. How could you not be? Peoples faces change, visibly brighten, when they enter the cafes main room, kicking snow from their boots and brushing melted flakes from their parkas. Their postures autocorrect under the high ceilings; the average height of each patron seems to increase at least half an inch as they stand in line, bathed in natural light and coffee aroma. Jerod makes the best Americanos in Montanaâ"the best. Behind the machine, hes wearing a three-piece suit and a contemplative look that says hes serious about his coffee but somehow simultaneously not so serious that he doesnt know how to have fun. If I tried to affect the same expression, the customers behind me would surely call 911, thinking I was having a mild stroke, but Jerod pulls it off with cool confidence, a professional among professionals, joyed by his labors. Its my turn to order: Americano, black. The dark-haired girl at the register is wearing a smile Id like to frame. Shes intimidatingly attractive, and so I fumble for something clever to say when she asks me how Im doing. But Ive got nothing, no wordsâ"my mouth, a swordless sheath. I pull out my wallet to pay, peeling a few singles from my thin stack. I dont even consider using my credit cardâ"not anymore at least. The snow keeps calm everything outside the windows, huge flakes like wet chips of white paint peeling off the sky. Cashâ"not a debit card, but cold hard cashâ"is the only currency I use these days; its harder to part with, makes me cerebrate over each purchase. Every dollar I let go of is like letting go of $1 of my freedom. I place a dollar in the jar labeled tipping is sexy and smile at the brunette. But I havent always been this way. (Well, Ive always smiled at brunettes, but I havent always been responsible with money.) Ill be 32 in a few months, and for the first time in my adult life, Im free of debt. Thats a weird thing for me to be able say. You see, from the time I was 18â"when Chase Bank granted me my first line of credit, a MasterCard with a $5,000 limit, which wouldve made any poor kid from Ohio salivateâ"until last month, nearly 14 years later, Ive had some sort of debt. As my twenties mounted, so did my tab with the creditors. First it was just that one credit card, and then, when that one was maxed out, it was two. And then three. Visa, MasterCard, even Discover. (American Express wasnt irresponsible enough to grant me a line of credit, not for several years at least.) But thats OK, I was successful, so I could afford it, right? Fresh out of highschool, I skipped the whole college route and had instead found a sales job that let me work six, sometimes seven, days a week, 10â"12 hours a day. I wasnt great at it, but I learned how to get better. By age 19 I was making $50,000 a year. But I was spending $65k. Unfortunately, I was never great at math. Perhaps I shouldve financed a calculator before maxing out half-a-dozen cards. I celebrated my first big promotion at age 22 the same way I imagined anyone would: I built a house in the suburbs, financed with 0% down. Everything in my culture reaffirmed this decision, even told me I was making a solid investment (this was five years before the housing crash). It wasnt just any old house, though; it was an oversized, two-story monstrosity, complete with three bedrooms, two livingrooms, and a full-size basement (the ping-pong table I never used came later, also financed). There was even a white picket fence. I shit you not. Soon after building the house, I married a wonderful woman. But I was so hyper-focused on my supposedly impressive career that I hardly remember the ceremony. I know it rained that day, and that my bride was beautiful, and I remember fleeing to Mexico for our (financed) honeymoon after the wedding, but I cant recall much else. When we returned, I got back to work, filling our two-car garage with luxury cars and our new home with fancy furniture and appliances, stacking debt on top of more debt in the process. I was on the fast track toward the American Dream, just a few years ahead of my contemporaries, who were all spending likewise, albeit five-or-so years later, in their late twenties. But I was ahead of the curve, an exception, right? At 28, a decade into my accumulation, I was forced to look around at all the stuff surrounding me. It was everywhere. My house was full of things Id purchased in an attempt to find happiness. Each item had brought with it a twinge of excitement at the check-out line, but the thrill always waned shortly after each purchase, and by the time the credit-card statements arrived, I was overwhelmed with guilt, a strange kind of buyers remorse. And so Id do it all over again, soaking in the suds of consumptionâ"lather, rinse, repeatâ"in search of something that resembled happiness, an elusive concept that got farther and farther away the more I chased it. Eventually, happiness was just a speck on the horizon, way off in the distance. Turns out that Id been running as fast as I could in the wrong direction. Oops. The stuff wasnt doing its job; it wasnt making me happy. In fact, the opposite was true: instead of happiness, I was faced with stress and discontent and anxiety. And massive, crippling debt. And, eventually, depression. I no longer had time for a life outside of work, often laboring 70â"80 a week just to pay for the stuff that wasnt making me happy. I didnt have time for anything I wanted to do: no time to write, no time to read, no time to relax, no time for my closest relationships. I didnt even have time to have a cup of coffee with a friend, to listen to their stories. I realized that I didnt control my time, and thus I didnt control my own life. It was a shocking realization. What I did with that revelation, however, is much more important than the revelation itself. Faced with epiphany, I turned around and started walkingâ"not runningâ"in the right direction. I spent two years living under new spending standards, what I refer to as my Ramen Noodles Meal Plan, slashing all my nonessential wants and likes along the way: I sold the big house (at a significant post-crash loss) and moved into a small apartment; I paid off my car and kept driving it without considering a new one; I cut up the credit cards and started paying for everything with cash; and I bought only the things I needed. Ultimately, I discovered that I needed far less than Id thought I did. For the first time in my life, I could see happiness getting closer and closer as I walked away from the stuff and toward real happiness. My friends and family started noticing my changed demeanor, too. Over time, life was calmer, less stressed, simpler. I spent time paying off debt, incrementally, month by month, bill by bill, getting rid of everything superfluous so I could be less tied to my income, less tied to a job that ate all my time. I didnt simply jump up and quit my job, though. That wouldve been stupid. Instead, it was a long road. It took two laser-focused years to eliminate 80% of my debt, and after I left my career as I approached age 30, I took a sizable pay cut, but I still focused on paying down the debt, spending two years slapping around that remaining 20%, never losing sight of the freedom that hid behind it. Today Im seated at a table by the window, sipping an Americano that I paid for with cash, thumbing through pages of the Missoulian (also paid for with cash). I glance up from the pages periodically, watching the white streets become enveloped by more white. Its like the opposite of a Hitchcock film out there, all hope and promise, a beautiful cleansing. Eventually I see Ryan enter the cafes doors, a huge, goofy grin on this face, snow caked to his eyebrows, his hair untamed. He looks like he has a good story to tell. Im waiting to hear it. Ive got the time. Debt-Free is an excerpt from Everything That Remains. You May Also Enjoy How to Start a Successful Blog Today Learn how to start a blog in less than an hour. Should Marijuana Be Legalized - 1638 Words
Cannabis Should Be Legalized in the United States In 1920 when alcohol prohibition began the war against cannabis had been going strong for a decade. In 1910 the Mexican Revolution created a surplus of Mexican immigrants in the United States; American citizens were frightened by the Mexican culture, including their recreational use of cannabis (Marijuana Legalization, 2015, para 7). Politicians continued to use fear and racism to grow disapproval and hatred of cannabis. Beginning in 1915 twenty-nine states passed the anti-marijuana law, which was first created and passed by the state of Utah when a group of Mormons who were visiting Mexico returned home with cannabis (Marijuana Legalization, 2015, para 9). The prohibition of cannabisâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦It is also much safer for chronic pain sufferers than prescription narcotics. The country would also benefit from the tax revenue collected by the regulation of legal cannabis. Itââ¬â¢s baffling how alcohol and tobacco are legal for recreational consumption but cannabis is not, considering that cannabis is much safer and less damaging to the body. Philip M. Boffey (2014) wrote in an article for the New York Times, ââ¬Å"[marijuanaââ¬â¢s] effects are mostly euphoric and mild, whereas alcohol turns some drinkers into barroom brawlers, domestic abusers or maniacs behind the wheelâ⬠(para. 5). The immediate effects of marijuana are clearly not as harmful as alcohol to the individual consuming it and for the people around them. In fact, in a situation where alcohol consumption makes a person abusive to their family cannabis may have the opposite effect and calm the personââ¬â¢s nerves rather than get them railed up. Boffey (2014) also wrote that, ââ¬Å"[w]hile tobacco causes cancer, and alcohol abuse can lead to cirrhosis, no clear causal connection between marijuana and a deadly disease has been madeâ⬠(para. 9). For a person who uses cannabis daily, either medical or recreational, the long-term health effects are nowhere near as damaging as long-term use of alcohol or tobacco. Substances that are legally sold and regulated in the United States every day. If the immediate effects of

Ernst Mayrs What Evolution Is Essay - 1212 Words
Ernst Mayrs What Evolution Is When Ernst Mayr published his book, What Evolution Is, in 2001 it was hailed as a work of genius. The praise, replete with superlatives, ranged from elegant, enthralling, and provocative to clear, comprehensive, and very informative.1 From all appearances it intended to be the theory of evolution offered up to the common man for general consumption and enlightenment; it was what would put the evolution/creationism debate to rest once and for all. It neither fulfilled its own goals nor lived up to the acclaim received from the intellectual establishment. In order to assess the success of Mayrs book as a book for the people, it is necessary to examine just who these people are. Certainlyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The theory (or fact- as Mayr would have it) of evolution represents a threat to the traditional identity of this region. This tension between science and tradition (whether real or perceived) has affected the education and upbringing of an entire region for so long that even now in this age of reason and scientific enlightenment, the debate continues. To understand the unique relationship between the South and evolution, one can look at the Scopes trail in 1925 and the recent controversy evolving the Georgia department of Education. These two cases illustrate the continuing friction between traditional American (Southern) culture and modern scientific thinking/ the intellectual community. Eighty years after Tennessee v. John Scopes, 1925, know to many as the Monkey Trial, many states south of the Mason-Dixon Line are still grappling with the same issues as the people of Dayton, Tennessee did in 1925. John Scopes, a young school teacher in the small community of Dayton, Tennessee, agreed to challenge the newly passed state law which forbade the teaching of evolution in public schools. He was tried and convicted for breaking this law and so became a martyr for science over ignorance. The trial was dubbed the trial of the century and tiny Dayton became the center of national attention. The trail was a battle between the forces of good and evil. Golden Rice Free Essays
Golden rice Vitamin A is one of the most important vitamins to humans, and it plays an inevitable role in our daily life, thus Vitamin A deficiency (VAD) affects millions of people, causing serious health problems. Therefore, scientists are searching for the most effective method to let people obtain enough Vitamin A as possible. As a consequence, the scientific program of cultivating Golden Rice has attracted peopleââ¬â¢s attention. We will write a custom essay sample on Golden Rice or any similar topic only for you Order Now ââ¬Å"Golden Rice is a new type of rice that contains beta-carotene, a source of Vitamin A â⬠(Golden rice, para. ). This new technology has aroused many controversial debates. Some organizations and individuals think that Golden Rice poses unknown threats to the environment and human health, even preventing people from diversifying their diet. In contrast, others hold the opinion that Golden Rice has more benefits than harm to humans, helping to release the severe situation about VAD. This issue is a worth exploring in the aspects of technology, economy and efficiency. As a new project with high-tech content, Golden Rice needs reliable technical supports. Until now, many developing countries, such as African country, have no chances of benefiting from bio-technology, while developed countries have already enjoyed the new invention to obtain their mental health. Many people from the developing country recommend that, since the last green revolution had been missed, they do not want to miss this one, which may allow them to have the opportunity to lift millions of people out of hunger. What is more, International Rice Research Institute( IRRI) is optimistic about the prospects for the Golden Rice project, and they believe that it may open up a kind of new research model creating partnerships with the private institution. On the contrary, people consider that this technique needs to establish its reliability before it becomes available to the general public. Methods such as testing should be done, making sure it could suit the local environment. Moreover, this advanced agriculture technology needs to be promoted through marketing subjects in order to assure its safety. As far as I am concerned, bio-safety cannot be guaranteed. As we know, data on the potential health risks of Genetically Modified Foods (GMO) foods are scanty, which has made it impractical to remove the risk. There is a concern that the transgenic crop may endanger biodiversity, and lead to the extinction of valuable bio-resources, thus it is unwise to take this risk. Beyond that, the economic factors cannot be ignored. For people from developing countries, Golden Rice was thought to be contributed to reach self-sufficient in food to climb out of poverty. After all, economic turmoil and social instability may well happen without food security. It is also significant for the independence of nation and peace to the world. Besides, the IRRI thought they could seek economic help for private sectors, so that they do not have to worry about the funding issues. On the other hand, Friends of the Earth (FOE) found that such a project can hardly get nearly the amount of funding they deserved according to the data of past years. It is said thatâ⬠more than $100 million dollars has been spent on developing golden rice, and another $50 million has been budgeted for advertisements touting the cropsââ¬â¢ future benefits ââ¬Å"(Pollan, 2001, p. 15). How many cases of blindness could be averted right now if the industry were to divert this investment from advertising spending to a few of the programs such as providing free seeds to poor famers to help more people? In addition, the main purpose of this research is to solve the VAD and the poverty problem. However, malnutrition, diseases and poverty are deeply rooted in social soil, associating with economic and political systems, such as, the unfairness of income distribution. Hence, the Golden Rice has done little to address the fundamental problem. With all these essentials, the other important factor is on effectiveness on consuming. There is no denial that Golden Rice can supply a certain amount of Vitamin A, and it is necessary for developing countries to operate as stakeholders, instead of just accepting the decision made by government from developed countries. However, the fact is that Golden Rice has too little Vitamin A, a woman has to eat 16 pounds of cooked rice a day to satisfy her minimum daily requirement of Vitamin A, according to the research made by FOE. Hence,FOE advocate diet diversification. ââ¬Å"Previous studies either focused solely on effects of the rice on Vitamin A intakes without considering health outcomes, but used only highly aggregate intake data without taking into account important nutritional features like dietary heterogeneityâ⬠(Stein, Sachdev, amp; Qaim, 2006, P. 4-10). In addition, Krawinkel argued that the general issue is that nutritional deficiencies are rarely focused on one nutrient (e. g. , vitamin A, iron, selenium, zinc or others). In most cases, they are complex conditions and many sources for the various nutrients (Krawinkel , 2007, p. 9). It can be seen easily that the technical issue, economic issue and efficiency of Golden Rice have connected with each other closely. Essentially, I tend to think that disadvantages of developing Golden rice outweigh the benefits, located with three main reasons including doubting about the safety of genetically modified (GM) crops, reasoning the huge payout with small output and disagreeing with the monotonous diet, instead of a diverse diet. From my point of view, developing the varied diet is not only the most radical way to get all the nutrients we need but also helping to improve the life quality as well as developing a healthy lifestyle. What Is Enlightenment According to Kant free essay sample
What is enlightenment according to Kant? For hundreds of years questions such as what is enlightenment and how can we be enlightened were asked, and many different answers were given. Some tell that it is all about being educated, knowing few languages or being a great mathematician or a writer; others, on contrary, say that is not about academic education, but about education of our souls, that brings harmony and serenity. But every witness has its own truth. So in 1784, philosopher Immanuel Kant wrote ââ¬Å"What is Enlightenment? â⬠and told that ââ¬Å"Enlightenment is manââ¬â¢s release from his self-incurred tutelageâ⬠. In other words Kant means that being enlightened means to be self-sufficient and industrious by means of being free, honest and responsible. Independence is a state of being free from oneââ¬â¢s constant care and support. As Kant said freedom is the possible way to enlightenment; ââ¬Å"But that the public should enlighten itself is more possible; indeed if only freedom is granted enlightenment is almost sure to followâ⬠. For example, parents are always there to help us no matter what and protect us every time there is a need. Of course, it is obvious that without parents we simply wouldnââ¬â¢t survive in this world. But as we grow up we get used to this state, when weââ¬â¢re taken care of. Later on, used to this constant care, we start to abuse it. Kant said ââ¬Å"For any single individual to work himself out of the life under tutelage, which has become almost his nature, is very difficult. He has come to be fond of his state, and he is for the present really incapable of making use of his reasonâ⬠. Hence, when there is something unknown on our way and there is no one to tell us what to do or do it for us, we just try to avoid our own problems. Thus, we never learn to be independent, because we have neither knowledge, nor courage to face our problems and try to solve them ourselves. As an example, I have a younger sister, who is not much younger than me, so sheââ¬â¢s able to take care of herself; she does her chores such as ironing her own clothes or washing them and etc. Unfortunately she never cooks for herself; because, always having our mother or me by her side, she never tried cooking even once. And when I scold her, saying that she must learn how to cook, she always answers me with: ââ¬Å"Why do I need to know how to cook if you are always going to be by my side? â⬠Also Kant said ââ¬Å"Laziness and cowardice are the reasons why so great a portion of mankind, after nature has long since discharged them from external direction, nevertheless remains under lifelong tutelageâ⬠. As an example, I have a cousin, who never even thinks to do things himself. All his life he had parents, siblings and even maids to carry out his duties and take care of him. In other words, ââ¬Å"if he can only pay ââ¬â others will easily undertake the irksome work for himâ⬠. But once he will be left alone, without any funds, he wonââ¬â¢t be able to do anything. Further, Kant tells us that, although weââ¬â¢re free to do, think and say what we want , we still canââ¬â¢t do this, because we have boundaries and limits; we have laws and rules to follow, if not then weââ¬â¢ll be judged and punished. Kant said: ââ¬Å"Argue as much as you will, and about what you will, but obeyâ⬠.So we can doubt and question the rules and laws set for us by others but have no choice but to follow them. Following this further, Kant gives us a lot of examples. First of all, he points out that an officer on duty canââ¬â¢t question an order he was given, he must obey. But, the right to make remarks on mistakes in the military service and bring them out to public for judgment canââ¬â¢t justly be refused him as a scholar. Second, a citizen, who canââ¬â¢t refuse to pay his taxes, because if he does, he will be punished. At the same time, if he acts as a scholar and not as a citizen, his actions wonââ¬â¢t be judged. Because as a scholar he has a right to say out loud what he thinks is unjust and inappropriate. To sum up, I want to say that I agree with Kant. We can be free and honest to ourselves and the ones that are around us, but we must be responsible for our actions and obey the rules and laws; for, only freedom, honesty and responsibility can grant us the enlightenment that we are all striving for. Though we can never be fully enlightened, we can at least try to reach the highest point possible.
